Reminiscences of a Highway Surveyor 1886-1932, Chapman H T
1 Chapman H T Reminiscences of a Highway Surveyor 1886-1932
Chapman 1932 Hardcover
4to (7 1/2" x 10") , 148pp. Vg+. Illustrated black boards; illustration and titling (on front and spine) a little faded, but quite readable; app 1/4" tear at head of spine, but no loss; boards otherwise little worn (eg corners sharp, binding tight) . B/w photos. Library of The Institution of Municipal and County Engineers bookplate on front pastedown, with a couple of library ref nos written on pastedown and fep; Institution of Municipal and County Engineers rubber stamp on rear pastedown. Chapman was for many years the County Surveyor for Somerset, and then Kent - this is his story. The b/w photos of long forgotten County Council servants are of possibly limited interest, but there are also quite a few photos etc of historical interest - eg early bypasses in (then) rural parts of Kent, and a plan for the proposed tunnel under the Thames at Dartford (also pretty rural back then) , not finally built for another 30 years.
