Completely absorbing guide to what was then a relatively new field covering all sorts of aspects from content, physical design, psychology, placement, marketing, etc. , etc. It's absorbing because of the light we can now see being unwittingly shed on the environmental damage then starting to be caused to urban and rural America - phenomena sadly repeated globally in the decades since then - which caused Ogden Nash to write, "I think that I shall never see / a billboard lovely as a tree. / Perhaps, unless the billboards fall, / I'll never see a tree at all. " The b/w photos unexpectedly give us some fascinating insights into contemporary American life, and are worth the price of admission on their own.
