The Vauxhall Comic Song Book. Second Series

By: Sharp, John W. (ed)

Price: £60.00

Quantity: 1 available

Embossed and illustrated red boards (no d/jkt); a little marked; light wear to head and tail of backstrip, but binding not affected - binding tight. Corners lightly bumped. Gilt titling and decoration a little rubbed, but still very visible. Gilt edges. B/w frontis, with tissue guard; engraved half-title page. Owner's name on fep, in beautiful copperplate, dd 1848. The editor was "The Musical Director of Vauxhall Gardens". By this stage, the Gardens themselves were long past their best, having gone through bankruptcy and several changes of ownership in the preceding few years; in his Sketches by Boz, Dickens paints a very shabby picture of the whole affair. And, indeed, they closed for good in 1859.; 12mo (3" x 5"); 216 pages
