Two separate books, labelled (on the spine) "History", and "Plates". "History" itself contains both volumes of "National History & Views Of London & Its Environs", which have been bound together; "Plates" contains the b/w engravings to accompany these vols. Both books: dk brown patterned boards; fairly light wear; corners slightly bumped; brown leather spine; a little wear to head and tail, with small losses. Front joint of both books partially exposed, but binding intact, and tight. Occasional spotting to "History", slightly heavier spotting to "Plates"; pp supple. "Plates" is unpaginated; each plate features 5 smaller engravings. Near the middle of the book, one of the small engravings, "Painters Stainers Hall" has been carefully excised, and a different item pasted in. There are a couple of slight anomalies with the printing dates: Volumes I + II of National History both state 1834, though the b/w frontispiece engraving is dd 1835; and the frontispiece of "Plates" is dd 1832. Still, this is a wonderful textual + pictorial record of late-Hanoverian London, just before the railways started making their inroads and upheaving the Capital for all time. ; 8vo (6" x 9"); 208+216 (vol i) pages
