Patterned dk brown boards; a trifle faded at edges; occasional light marks; corners bumped; faded gilt titling on spine. A bound collection of four programmes put on by the Boston Amateur Musical Society for (presumably) their winter season - the concerts are numbered one to four, and dated Tuesday, November 28th, 1837; Thursday, December 28, 1837; Tuesday, 30th January, 1838; and Tuesday, 27th February, 1838. Each programme contains the text / lyrics for the pieces being performed. Many of the pages are annotated, in the same hand, suggesting these programmes were owned by one of the performers. The concerts are a mix of the classical (Handel, Haydn, Weber, Rossini, &co.) and the popular - a number of "glees", etc. But, curiously, every concert ended with a performance of God Save The Queen(!), though in lyrics slightly varied from the more more familiar ones in the British national anthem ("God save Victoria / Long live Victoria / Our gracious Queen", & Co.). The tune, though, would have been familiar to the audience as being that of the American patriotic song, My Country 'Tis of Thee.; 8vo (5 1/4" x 8"); Unpaginated pages
