App 1/4" at head of backstrip worn, and slight wear to tail; backstrip a little darkened. Gilt titling on front still quite sharp; gilt titling on spine a little dull, but still legible. Gilt top foredge. Front and rear joints partially exposed, but boards and backstrip intact, and binding otherwise unaffected. Colour plates, with tissue guards. Also b/w plates + illustrations in the text. Owner's name on half-title page.Tipped in at the front is an original sketch by Kate Greenaway; the mounting is a little worn, but the sketch is firmly fixed in place. The book is dedicated by the authors to John Greenaway, Kate's "only brother and life-long companion". This is no 250 of 500 copies signed by John Greenaway, who has also authenticated the tipped-in sketch.
