Please note that this is a heavy item and may require extra postage. ; Cover worn, and marked, corners bumped, first two pages detached, stitched binding bit fragile, but other than first 2 pp, the text section is integral, and fairly tight; some spotting, mainly on verso of text section, the first two pp have been attached to the rest of the text block with sticky tape at some time, and reinforced with masking tape on blank verso, and their  edges are  frayed; 44 lithogrpah plates at rear, of various types, and stages in the process of graining, and marbling, the binding of plates section is less secure, and is pulling away from the back strip, some  have also been reinforced with adhesive tape, but except for one, Mahogany fourth stage, which has slight damage, not across the plates themselves, only on margins, The first book published with plates explaining the process of marbling and graining. The author states in the preface 'This work has been prepared with the hope of assisting to bring about a better style of imitating the various kinds of Marbling and Woods, and to convey an accurate idea of the methods adopted by the leading grainers. All Previously published works dealing with these branches of Art have merely illustrated the finished panel, and have not instructed the student by illustration, how to begin and proceed with the work. I have, by means of of the colored plates, to show how the work must be proceeded with stage by stage, in a practical manner, in order to arrive at the finished imitation. The letterpress description will also materially assist the student in his efforts.
